On April 4th, the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) announced five policy changes for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program in response to labor shortages caused by Canada's current economic recovery. One significant change is the extension of the LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment) validity period from 9 months to 18 months, which took effect immediately on April 4th.
Before the pandemic, the LMIA was valid for only 6 months. During the pandemic, its validity was extended to 9 months. Now, the LMIA validity period has been extended once again to 18 months, providing temporary foreign workers with more time to apply for work permits.
