1.Requirements for photos for temporary resident visas such as work permits, study permits, and tourist visas To apply for a temporary resident visa, study permit, or work permit, you need to submit photos. Visa photos must meet the following requirements, otherwise they will not be accepted. 

  • Each applicant and accompanying family member need to prepare two passport photos per person. The photo must be printed on high-quality photo paper.

 2.Requirements for photos for permanent resident applications and citizenship applications

For general applications for Permanent Resident Cards and citizenship, the photo requirements typically exceed two images and are as follows: 

  • Photos must be printed on high-quality photo paper. 
  • Photos must not have any alterations or use of existing photos. 
  • They must be taken by a commercial photographer, and the back of each photo must be stamped or signed by the photographer (labels are not acceptable). The stamp or signature should include:       

    Applicant's name and date of birth.      

    Name and complete address of the photography studio.      

    The actual date of the photograph.


  • The photo size for Permanent Resident Card applications must be 50mm*70mm, with the distance from the top of the applicant's head to the chin between 31mm and 36mm. 
  • The applicant's expression should have eyes open, clear, mouth closed, and no smiling.
  •  The lighting in the photo should be even, without glare or shadows. 
  • The background of the photo needs to be pure white, and the applicant should appear with a natural skin tone. • Editing of the photo is not allowed, including color adjustments, resizing facial features, eliminating birthmarks, changing hair color, etc. 
  • The photo must be taken within the six months prior to submission. 
  • The applicant must not wear tinted or reflective glasses, and the eyes must be clearly visible. 
  • If red-eye occurs in the photo, it needs to be retaken. 
  • The applicant must not wear hats or headscarves unless for religious beliefs or medical reasons; note that shadows should not be cast during the photo shoot. 
  • The applicant's hair does not necessarily need to be tied up for the photo. 
  • Any shadows in the photo may result in the rejection of the photo, so the lighting must be even, and there should be no shadows on the applicant's face, shoulders, or head background. 

3. Requirements for Canadian Passport Photos:


The size of the Canadian passport photo must be 50mm * 70mm, with the distance from the top of the applicant's head to the chin between 31mm and 36mm.

It must be taken by a professional photographer, and a stamp or handwritten signature must be placed on the back of the photo (labels are not allowed). The content should include:    

   The name and full address of the photography studio.    

   The actual date of the photograph.    

   The applicant's signature.    

   The applicant must clearly write "I certify that this is a true likeness of (applicant's name)”. 

Other requirements are consistent with the above-mentioned Canadian permanent resident and citizenship application photo requirements. 

4. Children's or infant's visa photo requirements typically include:


Specific requirements for children's or infant's visa photos are as follows: 

  • Only the child's or infant's head and shoulders should be visible in the photo, without the presence of parents' or child's hands.
  • Newborn infants can be photographed while sitting in a child seat, but a white blanket should be placed behind them as a background.
  • Ensure that there are no shadows on the child's or infant's head, shoulders, or face.
